Wonder what I've been making lately? Here's a look at what has gone out the shop door.
Two Gunstock Warclubs that are available from Bladeart. I've only made three of these so far (working on number 4) but boy, do I like making them. The club on the left has a curly maple haft with copper and iron tacks and a damascus blade. It is based on a 1826 painting. This club is on the large side of gunstock warclubs. The second club is made from Black Walnut that has been file branded. Brass and iron tacks are used for decorations and the blade is damascus. This club is on the small side of your typical gunstock warclub. Sorry but the photos are shown full size and do not expand.
Probably my favorite tomahawk of 2007. This one has a lot of neat features: Bronze mouthpiece that is turned and hammered, bronze endcap and overlays. Bronze bowl that is fire brazed in place. Iron head with 1095 cutting edge. Snub Penny scroll at the bottom of the blade. Overall a great hawk.
At the 2007 Blade Show my good friend and longtime customer Uncle Larry complained to me that I "made lots of tomahawks with crosses in the blade, masonic symbols in the blades but nothing Jewish!" So I started work on this tomahawk. The Magen Star is firebrazed silver. The bowl is extensively fileworked. I also incorporated beads that matched Isreali colors. Uncle Larry liked it.
Spanish Cross tomahawk. Probably the nicest one I've made so far.
Here's something for you machinery geeks. (I'm one) I got to visit a local axe handle factory back in the fall and took these pictures of an older (1870's) axe handle lathe. I've built a variation based on the Thomas Blanchard version. |
