When I was a young child, my father would bring home a
"prize" to me from his frequent business trips. When I was nine
years old he brought back two books that would set a course for my life:
Swords and Blades of the American Revolution by George Nueman and Complete
Guide to Indiancraft by Ben Hunt. These books talked of tomahawks and
rawhide and beadwork and blades. I was hooked. Three years later I began my
forging career and I have not quit forging since.
My historical tomahawks are based on
original tomahawks found in museums and private collections, even tomahawks
depicted in period paintings. Sometimes I copy the 'hawk as closely as
possible, other times I pick and choose elements found in various pieces. Each
time I create a usable piece of art that is my own.
Each historical tomahawk I make is
completely hand made - and they take a long time to craft. I do not accept
orders for my historical pieces. Instead I sell them as they come
available on a first come first served basis.
Below you can browse through a sample of the hawks that have
been made in the last few years.
New pictures of historical hawks
appear on the photo
gallery pages after they are sold.
